Organist Douglas P. Embree started piano lessons at the age of six, taking up the organ at twelve. His teacher was the church organist, from 1929 to the mid 1980's, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in his hometown, Montebello, California. He also took lessons at the University of California at Riverside, from which he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music in 1968 and his secondary teaching credential in 1969.

He served as organist and choir director for the four part choir at St. Benedict from early 1970 to mid 1971. He served as organist at the Boscawen Congregational Church from 1973 to 1978, when he started at Sanbornton. Doug realized that he had some mighty shoes to fill in that one of his predecessors was Catherine Currier who served as organist in Sanbornton for fifty-four years, until the early 1970's. In all there have been only five organists in Sanbornton in the last one hundred and twenty-five years.

Doug is the owner of Century 21 Twin Rivers Realty, with offices in Tilton and Laconia. He is the proud father of five, the grandfather of six, and the great-grandfather of five. He and his wife Mary love to spend time at the lake and the ocean and have a condo and boat on Lake Winnipesaukee. They also enjoy traveling all over the country.
