Christian Education
During
the school year the Sunday School meets at the same time as the worship
service. Children attend the first part of the service and leave for class
after the Children’s Sermon. A Nursery space is provided in the undercroft and
a rocking chair is available at the rear of the sanctuary for parents with
small children who might benefit from a quiet place during worship.
Our
Sunday School Program is for Preschool – Grade 8 and is organized in small, age
similar groups. It is designed to accommodate each child’s particular
needs. Our children have fun while learning and many of their voices ring out
each Sunday in our lively Junior Choir. In addition, middle school
children have an opportunity to participate in confirmation class.
We currently
are using The Cokesbury Curriculum, Rock Solid: Building a Heart of
Faith. The lessons center on the Old Testament, Advent, Birth and Life of
Jesus, and the early Christian Church. Our curriculum is designed to
invite active participation, socialization and involvement in the community.
The
Sunday School Curriculum is supplemented by many mission and outreach
activities as well as lively group social functions.
During
the summer there are opportunities for the children to participate in our UCC
Camping Programs at Geneva Point on Lake Winnipesaukee or the Horton Center in
the White Mountains. Scholarships are also available. In addition
our children have been the inspiration for our church floats in Sanbornton’s
Annual Summer Celebration of Old Home Day.
Our
children have enthusiastically participated in the UNICEF Trick or Treat
collection, collected food for the Food Pantries, taken a trip to Heifer
International’s Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA., collected money for Pennies for
Peace and Heifer International. They continue to look for ways to support
the local and world community.
